DESERT CHILD IS A CHILD SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM THAT OFFERS SCHOOLING TO THE AFAR CHILDREN OF ETHIOPIA

MOBILE SCHOOL
Afars are nomadic,
so we have constructed a mobile school - two buildings in different locations. When the people move, classes are able to continue in the new location. Success has come early. The clan’s people are hungry for education. More than 50 children are already attending the school.

KATAYSA
David and Jonathan were deep friends.  “Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as himself.” (1 Samuel 18:3)  In turn, David never forgot Jonathan nor his children, caring for one of his sons and then his grandson.  This is what Afars regard as ‘kataysa’.
A kataysa is someone who commits to another in friendship, standing up for him or her no matter what.  You have an opportunity to be a kataysa for an Afar child.

WE ENVISION
...the development of new techniques in herding and greater expertise in matters of health and food management in their very harsh environment – all of this spearheaded by literate, educated Afars.
...leaders rising up among the Afars who correctly handle the Word of Truth. They can do this best if they are able to read the holy scriptures.
